Crafting Your Own Luck :hammer_and_wrench:

Looking for a hands-on approach to luck magick? Consider crafting your very own lucky charm, lucky spell ribbon, or casting other types of magick for good luck!

Make a Spell Ribbon :ribbon:

John1 suggests making a spell ribbon that contains a spell to bring you good luck, fortune, and other blessings:

“Each ribbon will have spell on it but the person has to put the spell on The ribbon they choose. It’s like making good luck charms each ribbon will have a certain spell on it one for money love luck whatever” -John1

Your spell ribbon can be carried with you to bless you with the energies of the spell and/or intention that you write.

Good Luck Spells :magic_wand:

Up for some lucky casting? There are many spells specifically geared towards attracting and increasing good luck. If you can’t find one that suits your needs, considering adapting a spell or writing your own spell.

Use a Good Luck Sigil :pentagram:

Magickal sigils and symbols are forms of magick guided by a special shape or character. These can be drawn on paper, carved into wood or leather, or traced in the air. They are quick, easy, and potent ways to channel the energy of the chosen symbol.

Work With a Luck Deity :coin:

While most deities can be prayed to in hopes of receiving the blessing of good luck, some deities specialize in good luck and good fortune. Consider learning more about or working with a deity of luck this week.

Craft a Lucky Charm :spell_pouch:

An amulet is worn to ward off negative influences, creating protection. Meanwhile, a talisman draws near the desired thing, creating attraction. A lucky charm could be considered both an amulet (if it’s meant to protect the wearer from harm), and a talisman (if it’s meant to bring good fortune).

Challenge Entry - Luck Magick & Good Luck Charms
 :four_leaf_clover:

Perfect timing for this challenge! Today was my first full day at the coast and I got in a run (in 29-degree weather  ) and decided to do part of it on the beach. The shore was littered with shells, driftwood, and rocks. I ran but also spent a lot of time picking up feathers from pelicans and seagulls, a couple of beautiful intact whelk shells, and most importantly 5 hag stones.

"What Are Hag Stones?

Hag Stones: What They Mean, How They're Formed and Where To Find Them

Are Hag Stones Lucky or Good Luck Charms?

Hag Stones and Lucky Charms - Horniman Museum and Gardens

Short answer -
Yes!

A hag stone is a powerful, magical object that people have used since ancient times to protect, offer good luck, and heal.
(source)

Hag Stones Uses

Wearing a Hag Stone, or keeping one in your bag or pocket, is a good luck charm.
(source)

These are my first true hag stones! The first one I found just barely fit in my pocket but I soon realized there were several so I took my time and picked smaller ones I liked and that spoke to me.

This one seems to be a Coquina It’s very cool with bits of shells visible.

This one I think it from a coral.

This is I think my favorite so far with 4 holes that go all the way through.

A cute little guy with one hole.

And my last one

Looking forward to another walk tomorrow to see what I can find!

Lucky charms. Thinking on this , I realise I’ve had a lucky charm most of my life, though they have changed design.

Each charm was gifted to me. The first one I remember, was as a child. I was asked to look after a neighbour’s hamster, and as a gift, I was given a silver chain with a camel on it. I wore it everyday, and it became lucky when I left the middle east and returned to England, where the camel suddenly made me feel safe and at home in England by linking me back to the dessert. :person_shrugging:

Then I went to see the Royal Shakespeare Company perform something Shakespeare (I can’t remember the play ), but I met this wonderful lady (I must have been about 19,20, she’d have been 60), anyway, something about her said witch, and she was just magical. She shared her stories with us. That day I was given an RSC badge which I wore everyday as it felt magical. When I re-took my A level English Literature , at night school a few years later, I wore that badge, and scored top grades (lucky indeed, or did that lovely lady enchant it, I’ll never know.:joy:)

Now I have my mini poppet doll. That sits in my bag, and goes where I go. Also gifted to me, she symbolises me now, older, a little ragged around the edges, but still full of Magick. :joy:

I don’t ever remember working with Fortuna before. Maybe I’ll do that for this week’s challenge.

Thank you, my dear! It’s been a lovely trip, very relaxing and nourishing to my soul. I’m in North Carolina, USA. 29 degree weather isn’t cold compared to those living up North, but it’s chillier than usual for us. Today got into the 50s so that was a nice change.

Hmmm… I’m going to have to think on this one for sure. Not sure how to approach it or if I even have anything as a good luck charm

@Artemisia, I found my first hagstone completely by accident! Then my daughter had brought home some coral that had the holes through & through, then gave them to me & I was giddy about it! I’ll have to go down the walking trail with the beaches we can walk on to see what treasures I can find. I normally have good luck when I go there. I’ve found mermaid fingernails, hag stones, sea glass… & now I want to see if I can find any hag stones too! Maybe not right now, though; it’s below freezing during the days recently & tomorrow, we are supposed to get some kind of yucky weather. Whether that will be snow, slushy rain, or rain… remains to be seen

They say that gifted things hold a special kind of power to them, like they hold some of the energy and the well-wishes of the one of who gifted it :gift_heart:  Your lucky charms are all lovely, Tracy- each one with a story of their own! Thank you for sharing. I hope your new lucky poppet brings you many blessings

Awesome! If you do decide to work with Lady Luck, wishing you- well, I’d say “good luck”, but I think that comes with the territory! (Have fun!)

If you don’t have a lucky charm, you could always make one! :grinning: :sparkles: Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have with it- enjoy! :two_hearts:

They are so cool and enchanting! I was excited when I had some that were almost hag stones (the holes didn’t go all the way through) so I can imagine your excitement! It’s close to low tide right now, so I’ll be walking the shore looking for more before I do my run later this morning.

Once upon a time, there was a Greek god of rivers named Achelous. (May the Greeks among us please forgive me for pronouncing his name with a French accent and imagining him as a beautiful sea serpent).

In Disney’s Hercules, Achelous is portrayed as a minotaur. Hercules fights Achelous for the life of Meghara. In this fight, Achelous loses a horn from his head. This horn becomes the cornucopia or horn of plenty.

Just thought some might enjoy the trivia.

I grew up with a yard where we had regular three leafed clover and five leafed clover. When I told classmates about it, they teased me and told me it was impossible. There was no such thing.

The first time I found a four leafed clover was when I was in college. Mom and I were coming home from Pokagon State Park, and she needed to use the roadside pit stop. I wandered around the unkempt yard by the car and found six or seven four leaf clovers! Pressed them in a book, feeling guilty that there were so many when others are lucky to find just one in a lifetime, feeling badly that I picked them until I saw the sign that the roadside stop would soon be closed down permanently.

Once the clovers were dry, I Put each one on the non sticky side of laminating plastic. Then I put another sheet atop, sticky side down. This made the clovers into stickers. I left the backing on the bottom sheet and handed out the clovers to people I cared about. they could leave the sticky side covered and use the clover as a book mark or take the protective sheet off and use the clover as a sticker.

Before we moved out of my childhood home, I plucked one five leafed clover, pressed it, and laminated it in a similar way. Thus, I have one four leaf and one five leaf clover left, to prove they do exist, and they grow the same, not like cinquefoil.

Once upon a time, a rabbit’s foot was considered lucky. (Not for the rabbit!) I was given one at a fair. It creeped me out, though the fur was soft and there was one pink dot on it where someone had dripped dye.

Mom once told me that diamonds were lucky for women to own. The best thing I could do in life was get married to someone who could give me diamonds. I could then collect them. If anything happened, I could sell the diamonds to survive.

Diamonds are pressed carbon. When a small to medium sized star dies, the hydrogen and helium has all burned to carbon. Then the star shrinks, pressing the carbon as far as possible. Thus, dead stars which once had planets were literal diamonds in the sky. Since I believed the stars were my ancestors, diamonds were dead bodies. When Mom wanted to give me her wedding ring, I was grossed out!

I once owned a beautiful wooden goblet, which I used to whisper wishes into. The wishes came true… One night, I was shown that the goblet was a tool. If I kept using the tool in the same way, I would use it up and it wouldn’t work any more. I found other ways to make wishes come true so I wouldn’t use up my beautiful tool. The goblet found a new home after teaching me to use many tools.

My sister lives in Indianapolis and I never met her but I want to explore more in my middle age. I think I will add this park to my bucket list! Thank you Georgia! Know I’m going to keep reading your thread don’t worry I’m listening!

I have a vague memory of picking for leaf clovers, but I could never find a four leaf clover! :four_leaf_clover: once I think I did but someone said that there is no such thing!

That’s awesome  I’m glad  cause that’s proves I’m not crazy !

I believe the same thing!
I believe that each star is a person that has passed away, and is our ancestors like you said!
We are alike I knew that already da!
Once my friend said I drew like a five yr old so what that really hurt my feelings but I made this sigil to dispel depression! And I might be a cup of emotional pain but at least I have feelings!

From her house, plan on taking I69 north (can’t go south from Indy) just north of Angola. It’s a 3 1/2 hour drive. There is a big brown sign just after a big hill to guide you.

(Note, please forgive: these pics are at least 40 years old)

There is food available in the park, but if you want some 1950’s fun, see if Arnold’s is still open. If not, the road just past it is flanked by restaurants. Once you get off the main highway, the road splits. The north fork takes you to the park (follow another brown sign and be patient through the woods. It’s in a ways), while the south fork takes you into Angola’s business district. You’ll recognize Arnold’s (on the left) because there is a car on the roof!

It is (or was last time I was there) a drive-in where the car hops wear roller skates, but they do have an indoor diner decorated with memorabilia worth seeing. One room is 1950,

and one room is 1960 drug culture style.

Don’t ever miss the bathrooms!

When you visit Pokagon, request from the entry ranger station a trail map to Hell’s Point for some beautiful overlook views.

(Me in high school)

Lake Lanidow is also a beautiful spot, along the circular trail to Hell’s Point.

The spring is back by the group camps for a water break, if it is open to visitors- usually closed in summer because of campers, but ask at the camp ranger station in the road if they will let you back there for some water- they just might let you. Tell them where you are from for an even better chance of guidance and access.

(Mom, many many years ago)

There are two beaches,

(September fly-in)

friendly wildlife (take pretzels in the fall to hand feed deer and coons- they love the salt),

a lovely nature center,

a camp store (mostly food and firewood), riding trails with horses,

and an inn with a visitors’ center/travel store.

(We went often enough to make friends with everyone, but they are probably all gone by now)

If you want to stay at the inn, call ahead of time to check for rooms- at Christmastime, reservations fill up months in advance.

Some trivia you may not hear while you’re there: the park was built during the Great Depression by the CCC, a group created by the then president to help people get back on their feet, financially. Hell’s Point was the refuse from building the nearby highway. Of course, you can’t tell, now. Nature has taken over.

There is now an overlook building at Hell’s Point where there used to be a giant, steep hill- perfect for viewing fall foliage.

Indiana has its own orchid!

(Mom was on her knees in water, upside down to get this pic!)

The Lady’s Slipper is found in early spring in the bogs of Pokagon. Plan on getting feet wet: they are not easy to find, though the rangers can guide you to the bogs where they were last seen.

For this one, I’ll just go over some of the ways I’ve incorporated lucky things into our home and a small note on something related. If I’m referring to coloured regions of the home, that’s related to the bagua map. (Feng Shui, the Bagua Map, and Furniture Placement)

I’ve bought some bamboo for the balcony. I picked a few different types based on the size they grow to, their shade/sun requirements, their resilience toward mites, and other similar variables.

(They look worn out here because they’d just arrived after ten days of travel in a cardboard box. It’s not that they came from the other side of the planet – just that the couriers were being hopeless.)

I’ve put a framed 福 (fu) poster on the wall. It also features nine fish – carp in particular – and some fruits, which are considered lucky. This is in the “red” region of the home, as I thought the red character and fish would fit nicely there.

In between the black and yellow region, I have these two framed posters of a bird and a flock. Cranes are another auspicious animal to have featured in the home.

Many years ago, when I was living overseas to study, I was given this beautiful jade bracelet. It’s another good symbol.

I noticed that keys are also considered lucky symbols, so here are my skeleton keys of Hekate.

Back to Chinese things again, here are some of my Emperor coins adorning a door. I have another set of five on another door.

And to round it all off, here is a jumble of bracelets, some of which feature the evil eye (and the hamsa) More protection that luck but, similar to some of the above, luck can just be another name for something else.

There’s more… Such as my crystal collection, but I will leave it at this for now. :black_heart:

I diffused some frankincense essential oil, lit a green candle, made some green tea, and said a prayer to Fortuna to invite her to my ritual.

I did some journaling on luck. Our thoughts can have a profound impact on how things turn out in certain situations; if you tell yourself, “I can’t do it” or “I’m going to mess up”, the odds that you will are in your favor.

Of course, there are some situations that are unpredictable and unavoidable. But as the old saying goes, “life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react”.

I did a tarot reading asking Fortuna how I can bring more luck into my life and the card - The Empress (reversed - suggests prioritize self-love and self-care.

I remembered I had a peach moonstone, which can help soothe anxiety and stress. I cleansed it and plan to use as a lucky charm to remind me to be calm in situations I can control and in situations that I can’t.
