Motivational Candle Spell: Accomplish Your Task ✔

Waxing Moon Spell to Finish a Task

Can’t seem to get something done no matter how badly you want to be finished with it? This spell draws on the Waxing Moon - a phase of the moon cycle associated with increase, growth, and strength. This spell can help boost your motivation and inner power so you can finally finish that tricky thing on your to-do list :ballot_box_with_check:

Although this spell has been designed with a writing project in mind, it can be adjusted for any task that takes place at home (writing, art, computer work, cooking, cleaning, etc).

This spell is an entry to the Waxing Moon Magick Challenge :waxing_crescent_moon:

You will need:

  • :scroll: A piece of paper
  • :feather: A pen or pencil
  • :candle: A chime/spell candle *

An orange candle (associated with creativity and energy) or a gold candle (associated with success and victory) would be ideal for this spell. If you don’t have either, a white candle (universal spellwork) or a natural beeswax candle (energy, accomplishment, hard work) will also work.

It is important to use a small candle for this spell - a chime/spell candle burns for about 1 - 2 hours. If this is too long to accomplish your task, consider using a smaller birthday candle instead.

The goal of the spell is to encourage you to work for as long as the candle is burning - do not snuff out the candle and quit early. On the other hand, if your candle burns out and you still feel energized - no worries, you can keep on going for as long as you’d like!

Spell Timing:

Spell Instructions:

  • SET-UP: Gather the things you need and bring them to a quiet and isolated place where you can work undisturbed. Leave your phone in another room (unless it is required for the task you are going to do). If there are people who might disturb you, let them know ahead of time that you will be focusing on your project for the next 1 - 2 hours.

  • Close the door behind you. If there is no physical door, visualize closing an energy door - you are closing off the outside world and securing yourself within a productive bubble.

  • Take your piece of paper and pen. You will write a contract that manifests your intention to get this task done, and calls on the divine to observe you while you do. Write:

I call to [ name of your deity, guide, or the universe ]
to watch over me while I [ task you are doing ]
I will give my best effort so long as this candle is lit.
As written, so mote it be.

  • Out loud, say:

“I promise to do my task to the best of my ability. Be it by Your hand or by the hand of time, I will continue until the candle goes out. Thank you for watching over me while I get this done.”

  • Sign your name on the paper. The contract is now complete and binding.

  • Fold the paper three times and place it beneath (or, if not safe to put it beneath) next to your candle.

  • When you are ready to begin, light your candle.

  • Work on your task until the flame extinguishes. If small distractions or doubts pull at your mind, simply look to your candle and allow the flame of productivity to burn these distracting thoughts away.

  • When the candle goes out, your contract has been fulfilled. You can continue to work on your task if you wish, or you can wrap it up and leave feeling accomplished.

NOTE: If the candle goes out suddenly before it reaches its end, this may be a sign from your deity or guide that you are needed elsewhere. If an emergency situation arises and you absolutely must leave, you can snuff your candle temporarily and then return later to finish your contract.

Thank you for this! Bookmarked it. I definitely need this. I normally am not a procrastinator but I have a crochet order I’m taking too long to do because it’s an item I’m not enjoying making. This spell should get me in gear to get it done and in the mail.

@Mystique I know the feeling! Creative projects require a lot of mental (and often physical) energy to do - it can be extra taxing when the task we have to do isn’t our favorite, or is one that we’re not in the mood to work on. At times like that, a little magickal push can go a long way to help us check it off that to-do list :scroll: :white_check_mark:  Wishing you all the best, Mystique - go get 'em! :raised_hands: :yarn:

@Amethyst My pleasure, Amethyst! How are your writing projects going these days? Hope the stories and characters are all behaving well for you! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :books:

@starborn Awww gosh, you’re sweet, Katerina - thank you! Trust me when I say it’s something I’ve been needing lately lol. Sometimes creative energy flows on its own and sometimes it doesn’t

@tracyS I hope the spell can be helpful for you, Tracy- good luck with your homework! You got this! :raised_hands: :two_hearts:

@MeganB My pleasure, Megan - I hope it will be helpful for you! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Lemme put it this way, I’m planning on trying this spell out this weekend. I want to put a chapter up in a week and I haven’t even started!

It’s not something the forum has right now, unfortunately! But I know the feeling - for posts that I need over and over again, I use the “custom date and time” feature. Then, when the notification goes off, I reset it for the same time next week. Slightly more labor required, but it works! :+1:

You’re very welcome, Ostara! :hugs:

How many words are you aiming for for the chapter? If it’s a couple thousand or so, I bet that marvelously creative mind of yours can crank it out (or at least a first workable draft!) this weekend - I believe in you, Amethyst! :writing_hand: :sparkles:

See, here’s my problem: When a notification goes off… I ignore it.

This has been here since 1 April.

About 6,000 or so. I can do it, I just have to stop reading this really interesting story I just started long enough to do it! LOL!

Ahhh I feel you - with so much happening around here, it’s all too easy for one notification to get swept up in the wave of activity and notifications! :ocean:

Whoa, that’s awesome! :star_struck: I know it’s hard to pull yourself away from a really fun and exciting story, but I’m sure it will wait for you while you create your own masterpiece

Good luck and happy writing, Amethyst! :two_hearts:

This probably would have really helped with my projects, but I didn’t have the motivation to do a motivational spell.

Awww sorry to hear it, Mystique - I know that’s a tough place to be. Do you think it might be burnout? I know when I hit absolute bottom and don’t have a single drop of energy left, it’s usually my sign to step away for a bit. Perhaps do some recharging out in nature if you can? :national_park: :battery:

Sending hugs :people_hugging:
