šŸ‘‚ Weekly Witchy CHALLENGE - The Magick of Sound

Merry meet!

Thank you once again to everyone who joined in for last weekā€™s Weekly Witchy Challenge - A Witchā€™s Collection :dolls:

What a delight to see the many marvels of the Coven- a round of applause to all of the collectors! And so it is to a symphony of sound that we dance into a rather musical topic for the new weekā€¦

The theme for this weekā€™s challenge isā€¦

Magick of Sound Challenge

:ear: :drum: The Magick of Sound :notes: :wavy_dash:

Sound and song, vibrations and frequencies-
all are powerful tools in your practice!

Have you ever had a bad day, only to turn on the TV, grab your headphones, or listen along to the radio and felt better? Whether it is through a favorite song or listening to a calming voice, sound has the ability to soothe away worries and improve our moods. Studies have even shown that music has the ability to help release dopamine- the ā€œfeel-goodā€ hormone (source: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) :sun:

In magick, sound unlocks waves of potential for the practicing witch- from the power of the spoken word to cleansing bell chimes, music for visualizations to guided meditations and much more- sound can be used in many creative and powerful ways in the Craft.

This weekā€™s challenge is a sister to the music challenge and cousin to the smell challenge- so grab your senses and listen up! :ear: :sparkles:

Exploring Sound in the Craft :loud_sound:

There are as many ways to use sound in magick as there are sounds out there- whether we can hear them, sense them, or not! Here are just a few suggestions of things you might explore during the challenge this week:

:wavy_dash: Vibrations and Frequencies

:bubbles: Cleansing with sound - sound is a popular and accessible way to cleanse yourself and your space

:person_in_lotus_position: Guided meditations - whether you wish to embark on an astral travel adventure, meet your spirit guide, or simply find peace and relaxation, guided meditations and visualizations can help lead you in the right direction

:place_of_worship: Devotionals, Prayers, and Chants - the collection of spoken works in the Craft is vast. Consider trying a prayer or chant this week, or consider writing your own!

:ear: Sounds as Signs - most sounds are simply what they appear to be, but some sounds- especially when a witch has recently cast a spell and is actively looking for answers- may be more than what meets the ear.

:magic_wand: Spells with Sound - have you cast a spell that involves music? Consider giving one a try, or making your own!

:drum: Instruments - Do you play an instrument? Tibetan singing bowls, witch bells, wind chimes, and many more instruments are common in spiritual practices, but any instrument that inspires and enchants is magickal in its own way! :musical_keyboard:

:dancer: Music - Consider sharing your favorite pagan or Craft-inspiring music as part of this challenge!

You can also visit the entries shared in the previous Magick in Music Challenge for more musical ideas and suggestions!

ā€¦ And More! :raised_hands:

As always, all witches are encouraged to embrace their own unique practice with how they explore the challenge theme :star2:

I was just thinking about using music in my practice yesterday - this is perfectly timed!

Mmm  this will be interesting. I donā€™t use alot of sound, like bells or the like, but I do have witches bells outside my frontdoor. I donā€™t write spells in rhyme, I just say what I want doing and do it. Although I love Hocus Pocus and the songs in that. She sings, ā€œboooookā€. Maybe put my singing and dancing shoes on for this one. Itā€™ll be noisy thatā€™s for sure.:heartpulse:

Weekly Witchy Challenge Entry for Amethyst:

Okay, every morning before I start my prayers, I play music from Awake Nation. Not only does it clear the space of negative energy but it kind of kicks my brain into morning devotional mode.

Iā€™ll also play it all day on Saturdays if I feel the apartment needs to be cleansed. Where I use a rollator itā€™s difficult for me to use smoke to clear the house so I use sound.

When I do a full circle Iā€™ll use a little bell signaling that Iā€™m ready to start, and when Iā€™m finished Iā€™ll use it again.

So thatā€™s what I do with sound. Canā€™t wait to see the rest of yours!

 I donā€™t know that I use much sound at all in my practice, but I do in my day-to-day. Going for a run with music makes things so much better. Listening to a cat purr while I fall asleep eases me. Listening to waterfall soundscapes helps me focus when Iā€™m working on a challenging task. Have to brainstorm tomorrow on my entry as Iā€™ve already fried my poor brain today trying to get PayPal to work in my WooCommerce shopping cart.

@tracyS I love Hocus Pocus! :mage: :closed_book: :eye: And it sounds like, between witches bells, spell writing (no need to make it rhyme, if you ask me!), and some fun and singing and dancing, you have lots of fun ideas in that creative mind of yours, Tracy! Hope you have fun- Iā€™m looking forward to hearing what you choose do! :grinning:

@crystal59 YEAH! These are some great tunes- thank you so much for sharing, Crystal! :dancer::sparkles:

@berranda Your singing bowl is gorgeous, Berranda! What a beautiful accompaniment to your meditations and spellwork :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

@Amethyst I was hoping youā€™d share about Awake Nation! Ever since you mentioned it a couple of years back, itā€™s been a favorite of mine. They have such an amazing collection of cleansing and meditative sounds :person_in_lotus_position: :two_hearts: I owe you one for the recommendation!

@Artemisia A cat purr is such a powerful sound! I swear it can chase away sadness and help to warm up the heart. Waterfalls and water sounds in general are really relaxing- I love them too! :ocean::sparkles: Sorry itā€™s been a challenge with WooCommerce- Iā€™ve never tried to wrassle it myself, but Iā€™ve heard it can be tough! That being said, youā€™re one strong and smart lady- I know youā€™ll find a way! Good luck! :raised_hands:

Challenge entry: This is my favorite challenge! Being a blind witch, I basically donā€™t do magic without sound. I have a bunch of music that I like to cast spells with, and my spells are almost always incantations. Iā€™ve taken to recording my altar rituals to listen to how I did them and compare them to now. I so loved reading about everyoneā€™s magical sounds! So funā£ļø

Sound doesnā€™t play a huge role in my Craft. But sometimes, I will watch meditation videos with music.
Then again, does the sound of my essential oil diffuser count?

When walking in the woods, I think itā€™s not just the plants and the trees that calm you, itā€™s the sounds of the wind blowing through the leaves, twigs snapping from the animals, the birds signing.

If there is a creek or a streamā€¦ The sound of water has always been one of my favorite sounds in nature and makes for a relaxing environment. :droplet:

So does my Tinnitus count?

To calm myself, I often listen to youtube and the healing music. It does seem to sooth.

I also have bells haphazardly placed around the house and yard along with wind chimes that bring melodic sounds at random times. My singing bowls can fill the house with wonderful sounds and I often use them to begin or end a session of meditation or spell craft. I have a few ponds that enhance the experience when outside from the falling water. And of course the wonderful birdsong when I can leave the doors open or go outside.

As I age and put up with CHS (canā€™t hear S%&T) the sounds are becoming fewer, but no less appreciated. May we all appreciate the sounds of our Great Mother
