:consecrate_spell: Weekly Witchy CHALLENGE - Consecration

Merry meet!

Thank you once again to all those who joined in for last week’s Weekly Witchy Challenge - Magickal Equilibrium :balance_scale:

After celebrating the equinox and welcoming balance into our lives last week, it’s time to welcome something else into our practice- the art of welcoming new things itself! :gift: :grinning:

The theme for this week’s challenge is…

Magickal Consecration Spells8 Witch Challenge

:consecrate_spell: :gift: Magickal Consecration :magic_wand:

Preparing new tools and items for magickal use

When learning about magickal tools and items, you may have come across the term “consecration”. To consecrate an item is to welcome it into your practice and prepare for magickal use.

While sometimes used alongside the terms “cleansing” (to wipe an object, person, or space clean from negative energy), “charging” (to fill or refill something with power), and “dedication” (to designate an already-consecrated tool for one specific use, usually to a deity), each of these terms hold their own unique definitions.

This week, we are exploring the versatile and exciting practice of consecration- but keep in mind that there are no singular “right” or “wrong” ways to welcome a new object into your Craft, and there are as many methods of consecration as there are types of witches (which is to say- a lot!), so feel free to explore and be creative with your consecration work this week :consecrate_spell:

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

This week’s challenge is all about consecration - but as always, how you do so is up to you!

So are you ready? Because it’s…

CHALLENGE TIME!

STEP 1 : Making Something Sacred :open_hands:

This challenge is all about consecration and preparing tools for magickal tools - but how you choose to take on this theme is up to you!

Still not sure where to begin? To help you get started, here are a few ways in which a witch might approach this challenge.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Get Consecrating! :sparkles:

Any object you wish to use magically can benefit from first being made sacred. While this is most commonly an altar space and magickal tools that will be used for casting and spellwork, one might also consecrate spell jars, amulets and talismans, and even magickal gifts you wish to give to others :gift_heart:

Challenge Entry

One thing I’ve always done when consecrating new items is check the energy its giving off. If something feels off, I’ll say, “I cleanse [item] of any and all negative energies it has accumulated when it was being made, packaged, and shipped.” I will say briefly what I intend to use the item for and reaffirm my promise not to use my Craft to harm others.

After that, I would leave the item in a bag of rosemary overnight or for three days, but recently, I’ve been doing something different by letting my selenite cleanse it.

For my crystal dragon skulls, I like to consecrate them by holding them over a a candle and then set it down next to it for the next three hours (it’s all in three’s ) to absorb the light of the flame.

My favorite time is creating the Sacred space, and choosing the, sacred smoke!

:wood:Palo, Santo, sage, :potted_plant:rosemary,cedar-wood, Sandalwood, :drop_of_blood:Dragon’s blood, and many more!
I love Palo Santos woody smell ! It is not as strong but great for protection
Sage I will always love! It’s really strong some people don’t like that but I do.
Rosemary smells great!
Thyme is good
I can’t think of any I don’t like! Lol  for me I think I’m going to concentrate my journal and pencil and use some protection amulet for when I sleep.
Kassandra that’s a great idea to cleanse your things to make sure there’s no residue of neg energy! I want to get rid of stuff in my home and get rid of anything that is not for my higher purpose!
Artemisa- Yes it’s a great time to prepare for the New Moon :new_moon_with_face: and the Full Moon! Time just passes me by so quickly!
I just love my protection amulet I made! I need to make protection amulets more often! Thank you so much!

I’ve been putting consecration off for so long…

I decided I’d consecrate my altar tiles for this one and followed the “Consecration of an object” video. With most of my things packed away, I did with what I could, using a stick incense lit by the Lilith :black_moon_lilith: candle shown at the top of the photo, sitting in the Black Moon Lilith :black_moon_lilith: incense holder at the bottom.

The Lilith :black_moon_lilith: tile is in the top right of the photo, the Marbas tile in the top left, Belial in the bottom left, and the bigger middle one is to Lucifer. (Excuse the Belial sigil being upside down – I fixed it afterwards.)

Words escape me right now. I feel a little like a bee in smoke. It’s time for some quiet, I think. I almost said “quiet contemplation,” but this seems like one of those uncommon moments I don’t need to mentally play white noise in my head in order to clear it.

Happy consecrating, all. :black_heart:

:warning: Content/Trigger Warning: Blood :warning: (References will be blurred out where it occurs. Be safe; use sterile single-use lancets and practice good hygiene. I am not advocating the use of it (blood); I am just sharing a bit about my personal practice.)

Yet another perfectly timed challenge! Recently, I started feeling that my workings weren’t going as “strongly” (for lack of better words) as they had previously been going, so I took a step back and pondered why that may be. I came to the conclusion that I’ve been getting a little lazy and not putting so much energy into my tools and other materia in my workings.

Whenever I used a candle in my workings, I would take the time to consecrate it by sitting with it and allowing my intentions for it to be transferred into it while holding it in my hands. I would also use a touch of Hekate Oil for anointing and a drop of my blood to make sure my literal life force was associated with that candle.

I have had much better results since I started putting more effort into consecrating each ingredient I use!

I practiced a consecration called ‘Kai Guang’ done using a mirror on which is inscribed a Sigil. It is used to draw down energy of a god or goddess from above and then focus and infuse it into a newly welcomed statue of a deity on your altar, thus charging it. I did this ceremony to charge deity statues of Guanyin and Guangong on my altar and have since been able to feel the energy. I often feel the eyes of the deities come alive. Truly wonderful.

@Jewitch Just wanted to ask when you do blood magic do you use the diabetic pen, would that work. I’m not sure where to get the single use lancets. Thanks lovely :sparkling_heart:

These entries are all so beautiful :sparkling_heart:

You can find lancets on Amazon and eBay. I think pharmacies should have them, too.

These are the ones I got:

And I haven’t used them yet because I hate needles. :joy:

But yes, a diabetic pen works the same.

The “finger pricker” used for diabetes testing can be used as well, but these are the ones I ordered from Amazon

CHALLENGE ENTRY

Perfect timing, as I’ve got a photo of my Loki, that I wanted to consecrate so I can carry it with me for when I need to connect with him when out and about.

I have a little board that I place on my altar where I make holy many items. It’s where I ask for blessings on my amulet and talismans, my crystals, my key spells and any other item I feel needs committing to a special purpose

I drew Loki’s sigil on the back of the photograph
Screenshot_20230927-181954
Then place the photo on the altar

Lighting my candles and incense to Loki, I offer a prayer:
By fire, by breath, by blood I call you
Loki Laufeyjarson
By fire, by breath, by blood I call you
As you crafted a body for Askr and Embla
So too do I offer an image for you
To use as long as you desire
Hail Loki
(taken from Pagan Portal Loki by Dagulf Loptson, I’ve slightly modified some of the words.)
As I finish the prayer, breathe in the fire energy from the candles, and as I breathe out, the energy passes into the image.

Then make an offering, here I gave him some top notch coffee. :coffee:

Now I can take Loki with me everywhere I go. Yeay.:sparkling_heart:

Another perfectly timed challenge! I am in the process of revamping my altars and will be needing to consecrate various items. I too was waiting for the full moon, @Artemisia.

:warning: trigger warning blood references

@Jewitch The one and only time I used blood in my practice was when I consecrated myself has a witch under the eclipse
flower blood moon in 2022. I read of blood boosting magic and making it more personal to one self because it’s your actual life force and for those who are uncomfortable with blood I
heard using a strand of hair also works. My mom is a diabetic so I have access to a lot of lancets so I lit my candle under the full moon light put a glove on one hand and cleaned multiple fingers with alcohol prep on the other then pricked two of them and squeezed my life force into the incantations I etched in the candle the night before I’ve only used :drop_of_blood: once and I rarely hear anybody talk about using it but I’m always interested to read when you do I’ve done a lot of research on this type of magic not something I do a lot but definitely a potent form.

:warning:Content warning: blood

Yeah, it’s definitely not for everyone, and I don’t necessarily encourage others to use blood magick, but it certainly is potent!

As you said, hair is definitely a great alternative, and I’ve also used fingernail clippings before — anything that comes from the body, of course as long a safety and consent is taken into account

I’m happy to talk about using it. Although it might be one of those topics we want to take somewhere else, @crystal59 and @Jewitch. I feel like this weekly challenge space is too wholesome and we’ll just create blocks of blurred text everywhere. :joy:
