Recasting Spells - Should you do it? ❓

So you cast your spell, and now you are waiting for it to work. But what happens if days go by - or weeks - and nothing happens? What happens if you think your spell failed to work? Do you recast it? Do you continue waiting? What should you do?

I think that you should continue waiting and not recast the spell. Now, this belief is going to differ from person to person and faith to faith. Let me explain why I believe you do not need to recast your spell.

It is taking its time.

I believe that, if you did not set adequate parameters for the energy you cast out during your magickal working, the spell will take its time and manifest when it feels like it. Now, this could mean that it takes months for the spell to work the way you want it to. It could be that you did the spell this way on purpose. I know for some of my magickal work, when I have asked for the assistance of the Gods, I left it in Their hands to decide when the time was right for me to receive what I wanted. If this is the case, be patient and know that They might know better than you. If you did not do your spell this way, maybe you just forgot to set parameters for the energy in your spell. That happens, and it is okay. But still, be patient and wait it out for at least six months before you consider recasting. And I will tell you why in a minute.

It is not the right time.

This goes along with the example of my magickal work when I ask the Gods for their assistance. Maybe I am being greedy. Maybe the Goddess that I am giving an offering to in exchange for their help sees a better opportunity for me. Or - and this does happen - They do not want to help, so the spell takes longer or does not happen at all. Depending on your beliefs, this could be a valid reason why your spell is taking longer than you want to manifest. If you asked for help, consider that.

Something went wrong.

Again, this goes back to parameters and how you cast your spell. If you do not focus properly or you do not give the energy any direction or instruction, your spell will fail. Maybe you were trying to make a honey jar but instead of sugar, you accidentally used salt. Sugar is a key ingredient in any sweetening jar spell, so using salt instead will either not work or have the wrong effect. Consider this spell, in this case, a learning experience. Maybe you need to learn more about correspondences and ingredients before trying again.

Your heart isn’t in it.

This might be harder to pin down, but if your heart or your subconscious does not really want the thing you are asking for, your subconscious might redirect the energy unbeknownst to your conscious mind. Your spell will not work in this case because the energy you were directing received conflicting intentions and, therefore, did not know what to do.

You are asking for the impossible.

Now, I know some things appear impossible but, in reality, are well within the laws of physics or our physical world. However, if you begin to ask to breathe underwater, throw fireballs, or - less conspicuously - literally change the color of your eyes, you will be sorely disappointed. Magick will not allow you to go above the laws of physics, no matter how much you want to.

So, should you cast that spell again? Maybe. Maybe not. While you attempt to answer that question, keep these points in mind.

Have you ever had a spell fail more than once? Or have you ever felt the need to cast a spell again? Let me know!

Very helpful post! :+1: I really like the concept of setting the adequate parameters for raising energy. Set and Setting are crucial in my opinion.

I would add: Keep a Book of Shadows! :memo: or a journal of some sort to go back and see what you did, when you did it, what ingredients you used, etc.

Here’s a printable page for spell journaling that I designed. It can be really useful for keeping track of past spellworks.

@MeganB Thank you. You are full of resources. I did failed a spell with the Jar sweetening spell. I think I had but eventually we never know what my guardian has on his mind. Besides I try to rebuild energy around the jar with Sun energy. I ll put the jar under the Sun each day and see what comes from it.

For the less conspicuously part of magic, I think it might happen not with a spell. It’s very rare. And it’s something to see with occultism if I don’t get it wrong. I have experienced it myself. But it’s tiring asking for a lot of energies. And it has appeared on a period where I was being harassed. I was very angry, depressed and I was also scared. Hopefully I was wise enough not to harm people but I felt the energy all around my body and with my eyes and especially my heart swollen by anger I would command anything even the weather. I don’t want to experience these stuffs again especially if I don’t know where it comes from and how I should take care of it. I am ruled by the Rede of Wiccan and I ll stuck by it.

Sincerely,

G.

Aww thank you :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I saw your comment on another post about your sweetening jar possibly failing. I’m sorry to hear that! I hope it becomes more clear over the course of time :pray:t3:

As for the Freebie Friday tarot question, make sure you post it in that thread when the time comes on Friday! Otherwise it might get missed

Love the post but don’t agree with the limitations I am certain that science understands many things and it also doesn’t understand most likely more things than it does always reach past the possible. Disappointment will happen but so can discovery

Thanks for reading, though! Can I ask what limitations you mean? Is it my reasons why you might not want to recast or something I said in the video? That particular video is a couple years old now, I believe, and I don’t even remember what I said

Wonderful @SingingWitch Please do!

@MeganB I was actually referring to the original listing not a reply the article seems to limit things to the scientifically possible and well what is scientifically possible changes daily so not a good wall to lean on

Well, if anyone learns how to throw fireballs, please share. It would make Independence Day in the US a lot of fun!:grin:

Hey no big deal if you want to regard known limits as boundaries that is cool not sure what value magic is then cause science dismisses most of what it is all about

@Garnet Thank you :pray:t3: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

@jim – Ahh, so the bit in my original post about the magic not allowing you to go against the laws of physics? The thing about physics is that it has laws, things that have been tested and proven time and time again. While we know that magic can do amazing things, turn tides of events and provide a pathway for healing, those things are physically possible. Unfortunately, some things just aren’t.

Science and magic don’t negate each other. What one doesn’t understand, the other steps in and fills in the blanks. However, we understand the laws of physics, how gravity works, and the laws of thermodynamics. It would be unethical of me to suggest that magic can make you breathe underwater or, as @anon87969570 has requested, throw fireballs :fire:  Having a limit isn’t a bad thing and it doesn’t devalue magic in the slightest, in my opinion.

As I understand this conversation, @jim is correctly pointing out that science doesn’t know it all and what it does know changes, making it a slippery limit. @MeganB correctly points out that we can’t use magic to achieve what science has ruled out, like turning people into frogs. In my opinion these are not mutually exclusive. Finally, @MeganB points out that Undomeher is an overgrown delinquent and not to be trusted with fireballs.

Correct.

With a long life of science I know that while it is amazing even the most absolute things change science is not above reproach but it also doesn’t claim to be to it’s credit. I was very close to just walking away another dead end but I thought let me see what the cards hold first card 4 of cups and I thought how interesting tell me more 2 of wands I see so sorcerer Supreme title is still out there then is it last card ace of wands indeed thanks for the reassurance in short don’t give up on those fireballs maybe we just have to be patient
