šŸŒ¦ Weekly Witchy CHALLENGE - Weather Witchery

Merry meet!

Thank you once again to all those who joined in for last weekā€™s Weekly Witchy Challenge - Green & Herbal Magick :herb:

After exploring the world of green magick last week, weā€™re out of the woods and heading towards clear skies- or stormy skies, depending on the wants of a weather witch! :cloud_with_lightning_and_rain:

The theme for this weekā€™s challenge was suggested by the wonderful @Francessca and isā€¦

Weather Witch Magick Storm Challenge

:sun_behind_rain_cloud: :zap: Weather Witchery :umbrella:

Sun, wind, rain, snow, storms, clear skies-
the world of weather witchery changes by the day!

Calling all of the Ceraunophiliacs :zap:, Pluviophiles :umbrella:, and storm lovers in the forum- if youā€™ve ever been intrigued or drawn to the weather, this challenge is for you! :raised_hands:

Weather magic (sometimes called ā€œweather shamanismā€) is an area of the Craft that involves working with the weather. This may involve drawing on current weather conditions to enhance spellwork, working with deities of the weather and skies, attempting to control or change the weather, and more.

In many magical traditions, weather magic is a popular focus of workings. The term ā€œweather magicā€ can be used to mean anything from divination and forecasting to actual control of the weather itself. When you consider that many of todayā€™s folk magic customs are rooted in our agricultural past, it makes sense that an ability to foretell or change weather patterns might be considered a valuable skill. After all, if your familyā€™s livelihood and life depended on the success of your crops, weather magic would be a handy thing to know.

:zap: Weather and the Divine

From weather deities, gods of the skies, nature spirits, and more- there are many higher powers and entities a witch could work with when it comes to weather magick. While you are welcome to explore and discover your own, here are a few that may spark (:zap:) some inspiration!

Zeus - ā€œFather in the Skyā€ and God of thunder, lightning, and weather

:magic_wand: Weather Spells

This week, consider working spells that tie into the weather- you might draw on the energy of a storm :cloud_with_lightning: , allow the rain to wash away your worries :cloud_with_rain:, or perhaps even try to control the weather (keeping whatever witchy code of ethics you follow in mind!)

If you canā€™t find a weather spell you like, consider adapting a spell or Writing Your Own Spell :scroll:

Here are some additional ways you might use weather magick in spellwork this week:

A weather witch glows as bright as the sun
Like the rain and the wind, they answer to none
One with nature, they donā€™t bend nor conform-
So donā€™t mess with a weather witch,
or youā€™ll be faced with a storm!

Weekly Witchy Challenge - Weather Witchery ENTRY

How exciting this Challenge is going to be. I love storms. I never thought about weather and the craft together. I would plan my evening around a storm coming up off the lake. I would sit in my family room with a glass of wine, and I felt at peace. I would make sure dinner was done and dishes put away. I think that is the direction I am going to start with is finding out how/what to do a spell during a storm.

Thank you, Francessca, for inspiring this Challenge. Blessed Be,
Medea

Weather can have a huge affect on oneā€™s mood. Unless thereā€™s been a drought, people tend to prefer sunny and clear days over cloud and rainy days.
That gave me the idea to write a spell to lift oneā€™s mood when itā€™s a cloudy, dreary day.

Fun!!

Challenge Entry

I do a little chant when we are getting too much rain here in Houston. We flood easily so when I heavy storm blows through, it is always a concern.

Gods of Power, Godse of Might
I bid you now to stop this plight.
Stop the rain, we need no more.
Let it fall, nevermore.

I donā€™t know if it wishful thinking but it seems to lighten the rain and sometimes make it stop. I want to change the last line to make it where I send the rain somewhere it is needed more, but I canā€™t think of a way to word it that rhymes.

Omg at the celestial events tonight and its raining here

Itā€™s the same kind of weather here in upstate New York and I canā€™t see the moon Iā€™m trying to do a moon spell and meditate does it make a difference?

Itā€™s been dreary & rainy :cloud_with_rain: ā€¦ everything so far from gray & light winds  to downpours & just about every other type of rain you could have minus thunder & lightningā€¦ which is the most disappointing part of this

At least give me some thunder & lightning :cloud_with_lightning_and_rain: if I am going to be sore & uncomfortable from the cool dampness anyways.

 actually I mean low to mid-50sā€¦ so it more depended on the wind & rain as to how cool it felt throughout the day. Anywayā€¦ sorry for the tangentā€¦

I have a couple of ideas, I do collect stormwater for one of the deities I work with that I use in rituals & I also like to go to the beaches during storms to watch the power of the wind :wind_chime: on the ocean :ocean: with the waves crashing :star_struck: & in general I am personally more blah on dreary days & the winter daysā€¦ so got some things milling around the old noodle :ramen: about how to approach this one :joy:

Iā€™m also doing a spell with the moon tonight in rainy NY. Iā€™ve always read that clouds donā€™t make a difference

Oh my Gods  my first thought was I wonder if I could make it snow in Floridaā€¦ I donā€™t think Iā€™m going to try and have a white Christmas but I might play around with some different weather chants. I know there are a few common folklore stories about whistling in the wind and pouring out water for rainā€¦

Maybe Iā€™ll gather a collection of Irish folklore from Duchas!

I donā€™t quite know what Iā€™m going to do yet but weather magic is interesting!

Thank you sooooooooo much @BryWisteria Iā€™m over the moon about this challenge, I feel humbled and grateful that this is the challenge for this week :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:.

Canā€™t wait to see what everyone does / read all the post above. Lol wanted to make sure that I said thank you first before I dove in.

Wishing everyone a lovely evening.

Hi at @Amaris_Bane,

I like your chant, and find it clever . To make your chant rhyme, maybe you could change the last line to ā€œSomewhere that needs it moreā€¦ā€

Challenge Entry - Weather Witchery

From the link provided ā€œWeather witching: Harnessing the power of weather magicā€ the section on ā€œHarnessing Energyā€ using cord magic, tying knots. From its directions and for this challenge going to do this I cut a couple of pieces of jute, storing it in this mason jar, and just waiting for a nice storm to come my way. There is no storm forecast for the challenge week in my area, but at least for this challenge have the items ready and a plan.

Also, with the storm, going to use the same mason jar and gather some of its waters, some storm water, mentioned in the Challenge.

What to use it for? To amply spell work, to create a barrier to entry. Being the weather is tied with Jupiter, also may use the storm energy on spells and such for areas attributed to Jupiter.

You paint a very beautiful and relaxing picture here, Medea- this sounds like such a blissful moment of peace :relaxed: :wine_glass: :cloud_with_rain:

Wishing you all the best with your storm magick this week!

This sounds perfect- what a great idea, Kasandra! :sun_with_face:

I absolutely love your chant, Amaris  You choose beautiful words, and I have to say that ending with ā€œnevermoreā€ is a power move- thatā€™s such a great way to conclude a chant!:grinning:

Sounds like prime time to get some Full Moon Rain Water! :star_struck: :jar: :sparkles:

Other witches may disagree on this, but I would say nope- doesnā€™t make a difference! The moon is up there in the sky whether we can see it or not. I always think that the moon energy is in the air at night and that is what is charging the water :full_moon_with_face: :jar:

The ocean during a storm is really a force to be reckoned with- the waves are beautiful, but also pretty scary! My father likes to go down and see the beach during a storm. Iā€™m usually get too nervous to go anywhere near the wild water  :ocean:

Always fun to walk the beach after a storm, though- thatā€™s when the best treasures arrive! :joy::+1: :sparkles:

I agree!

Iā€™d be impressed with summoning snow anywhere, but it would truly be a feat of legend to bring snow to Florida! :snowflake: When was the last time you got snow down there? I imagine itā€™s a pretty rare event lol!

I would be super interested in the folklore stories about weather magic- that sounds amazing, Megan!

And I am so very grateful that you reached out with such a fun idea for a challenge! :hugs::heart: Weather magic is a great theme, Francessca- thank you again for sharing it! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Ohhhh knot magick is so exciting- I love how you are using it with the storm! I hope a nice and exciting storm comes your way for you to draw on soon :blush::cloud_with_rain:

Thank you for sharing about your storm knot magick and the storm water- so many great ways to use it! Good luck and blessed be, Eliza :two_hearts:

Thank you so much I went ahead and did it anyways. Whenever I have a quick question instead of going through Google and researching if Iā€™m in the middle of something I go straight to spells 8 thatā€™s where I get my best and fastest answers.

Medea

I know you said you went ahead with your meditation but wanted to add my 2Ā¢. If you think about sunlight, you can still get a sunburn on a cloudy day. The same is true with moonlight; it can still travel through the clouds.

I have always been drawn to watching them & Iā€™m far enough away that I can watch without having the waves :ocean: come up over the seawalls to where I am, well, depends on if I am driving :oncoming_automobile: tooā€¦ sometimes they come up & over those barriers & you have no warningā€¦ around that time I just keep moving toward home because the last thing I want is to be waterlogged in the middle of a storm & need to be pulled out of a puddle  We do have a couple of yacht :sailboat: clubs that are in good spots to watch it though near me.

During the day I can go to the beach in our neighborhood, where it doesnā€™t get too crazy because itā€™s more of an inlet with a smaller island across from it that you could walk (during low tide) to or swim to (during rising or high tide)

Although today itā€™s pretty nice & very sunny! I was sad about the rain last night because I couldnā€™t put anything out under the moonā€¦ but I did get to see it this morning when I woke up! So tonight Iā€™m hoping the weather stays non-raining & I get a few things out there for a bit :hugs:

So these are the pictures this morning of last nightā€™s moon once the clouds cleared & there was no more rain:

I love  this new feature on my phone since the update in Octoberā€¦ I get some amazing shots of the moon & sky now :star_struck:

Those are really awesome moon :full_moon: pictures! Mine moon pics usually look like a dot :eight_pointed_black_star: in the dark sky!

I need a new phone oh so bad. I think that is going to be our main Yule gift this year, New :iphone: PHONES! Yippie
Spells8 :infinite_roots: will be the first app I add  of course

OK I probably should add something about the challenge Iā€™m doing too  Mine has SNOW!!! :snowflake:
