Ansuz Rune Meaning

4. Ansuz

The word ‘rune’ comes from the Old English rūn ‘a secret, mystery’, and from Old Norse rúnir, rúnar meaning ‘magic signs, hidden lore’.

There are several different types of runic alphabets but in this video course we will explore the Old Germanic runic alphabet known as the ‘Elder Futhark’, sometimes called Viking Runes or Norse Runes.

What’s the Purpose of Casting Runes?

The truth is that the runes are not exactly used for “telling the future”. Much like with a Tarot reading, we don’t believe that the future is written in stone, rather that we as individuals have the power to follow our own path and make our own decisions. Runes offer insight that can be used to help understand situations and guide our intuition.

It was Odin who sacrificed himself to obtain the wisdom of the runes, giving them their sacred nature through which we establish contact with the Divine.

Each runic symbol, besides being a letter of the alphabet, also has symbolic meanings. Many of these go back to ancient practices which meant a great deal to the people using the runic alphabet, but the intent behind the symbols still has relevance today.

Runes can be used in many different situations. These video lessons will cover:
