What you’ll need

  • Focus

How to cast the spell

  • Think about the task you want to do, avoiding the words “I have to…” or “I should…”. These type of phrases imply that you have no choice, that you won’t do it unless you must. For example, never say to yourself: “I have to study”.
  • Say to yourself something like “I choose to study now”, or “I am ready to study” (replace with the task you are about to do). This way of thinking implies that you have control and it helps you avoid procrastination.
  • When you’re ready, count down in your head: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 — and do it!
  • Quit whatever it is you are doing and get to work on the task.

How Does The Spell Work?

While this spell to stop procrastinating doesn’t look a lot like any sort of Witchcraft, it works really well and requires no ingredients. The countdown method is simple yet very effective. Don’t underestimate it.

“If it takes less than two minutes, then do it now”

One way to do this is to create a list of small and very specific steps, and start with the first step. James Clear shares a few examples of activities that we can scale down into two-minute versions:

  • “Read before bed each night” becomes “Read one page.”
  • “Do thirty minutes of yoga” becomes “Take out my yoga mat.”
  • “Study for class” becomes “Open my notes.”
  • “Fold the laundry” becomes “Fold one pair of socks.”
  • “Run three miles” becomes “Tie my running shoes.”

Start New Habits with No Procrastination

If you are trying to build new habits, the two-minute rule will help you get started. Just tell yourself that you will be doing no more than two minutes of work. This rule can easily be applied to both large and small goals thanks to inertia: Once you start doing something, it is easier to continue doing it. 💨

So, if you want to become a better writer, you just have to write a single line today. If you want to eat healthier, you just have to eat a piece of fruit. If you want to make reading a habit, just read the first page of a new book. If you want to run every day, simply spend one minute putting your shoes and clothes on, and one minute of running will be enough at this stage.

Tips to Avoid Procrastination

Have a Deadline 📅

Usually, when a deadline is near we end up being extremely productive. Many people manage to work better and with more focus when they are under pressure. If you are a procrastinator, set time limits for every task. Start with the two-minute rule: “This small task needs to be done two minutes from now. No excuses. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, GO!”. Having a time constraint will create the sense of urgency necessary for your to act.

Make Lists 📝

This is a very practical way to manage tasks and chores. Make lists of the things you have to do, but try and keep them realistic. If you write down more tasks than you will be able to carry out, you might feel demotivated when you see that you haven’t crossed them all out. It is better to set fewer tasks and do them all than to be overwhelmed by everything you have to do and end up doing nothing.

Do one Thing at a Time ☝️

Multitasking is not effective if you want to achieve good results. Focus on one thing at a time and your attention will not be diverted. Keeping the focus in one thing at a time is also a healthy way you to manage anxiety. Meditating is a good way to train your focus.

Avoid Stress 😌

Stress is one of the main causes of procrastination. If you are feeling under too much stress you will not perform well, and might end up postponing things. Make sure you enjoy your work, get enough sleep, eat healthy, practice sports or exercise and use your time wisely.

You can combine this spell to stop procrastinating with other small rituals to create peace and concentration. ✨


Have an Ideal Work Space

The environment around you has a clear impact on your productivity. It’s not the same to work in a dedicated office space or to work in your living room with the TV on.

Look at your desk and ask yourself: Is this the best space for me to work? Or is this place associated with fun and leisure? An optimal environment is one where you have absolute control. The simple act of making your own decisions about how to organize your workspace has an empowering effect and has been linked with improved productivity. – Source

Clear your desk of unnecessary clutter. If you don’t use it everyday, put it in a drawer. Bring in some plants, especially succulents or other low-maintenance indoor plants. Research shows that employees in workspaces with plants are also 15% more productive.Source

Different colors can enhance your mood in different ways. Add blue, green, and yellow accents to help boost productivity. A desk with plenty of blue accents could help you feel level throughout the day.

Ask for help 🙋

If you are stuck in a procrastination loop and can’t seem to be able to get out, it’s best to ask for help. It’s not worth to work hard when things aren’t moving. Sometimes the simplest and fastest way out is to talk to others and ask for their help.

Stay close to the people who inspire you and that motivate you to improve on a daily basis. Identify those friends and relatives, or seek the help of a mentor. They are going to instill in you a spirit of effort and give you momentum to get started. 💪

Of course, only ask for help when necessary. If you overdo it, they might end up thinking you’re trying to get them to do your work.
