How do I find my Spirit Guide?

Signs From Your Spirit Guides: How to Find & Meet Them

A spirit guide is a discarnate entity that watches over a person throughout some point in their life. While many spiritualists believe in guardian angels, many folks seem to use the broader term “spirit guide” to encompass any entity that lends us aid from the spirit realm.

Some spirit guides may be with us throughout our whole lives, while other guides may depart when they feel that they have served their purpose, and move on to help another in need.

Talking to Spirit Guides

We all have multiple spirit guides. You read that right – not just one, but many. Some of them may be your ancestors, your deities, or your guardian angels. Some may be the spirits of animals, such as pets that we cherished.

Regardless of who or what makes up our spirit guides, it’s comforting to know that we aren’t alone and that someone is looking after us in these uncertain times.

Spirit Guide Signs

If your spirit guide wants to communicate a message with you, then they may communicate with certain signs, symbols, or numbers. Look for shapes, symbols, or animals that are meaningful to you.

Loved ones who have passed on may choose to approach us as butterflies, hummingbirds, or other animals that represented their life – such as Moana’s grandma appearing to her as a stingray.

If you frequently encounter angel numbers – repeated digits such as 1111, 333, 777, etc. – this is usually a pretty obvious form of communication from your guide. While these numbers often correlate to various widely-accepted meanings, your spirit guide may decide to communicate in more discreet patterns.

Finding & Identifying Your Spirit Guide

There are many ways that you can actually identify and connect with your spirit guide yourself! That said, some signs may not be so easy to interpret, so consider helping out a local seer or tarot reader by purchasing a reading for more clarification.

Using Tarot To Identify Your Spirit Guide

One way to identify your spirit guide is through divination. If you are a tarot reader, this may come more naturally to you: just ask your spirit guide to show you the card that most closely represents their archetype.

7-Card Deity Spread: Identify a God or Goddess

Deity work can be intense, but what happens if you don’t know who is reaching out to you? Break out your tarot cards and give this spread a try when you’re met with a deity in disguise!

Using the symbolism and meaning of the tarot card drawn, try to find similarities in entities that may be trying to connect with you. Spend time meditating on the card and all of its possible meanings.

Identifying Your Spirit Guide With a Pendulum

If you need your guide to be a little more direct with you, you can ask them yes or no questions with a pendulum. You should have a general idea of who your guide is before communicating with a pendulum.

Follow up with questions that only that entity would know. This can help you verify that you’re actually communicating with your guide and not some trickster spirit.

Communicating With Your Spirit Guide

Once you’ve identified your spirit guide, you may wish to communicate with them directly. While this skill comes naturally to some, others may need a bit more practice – so don’t be upset if it doesn’t work out for you the first time.

How to Talk to Spirits

In this article, we’re going to take you through how to set yourself up before connecting, what to do when you feel like you’ve made a connection, what sort of questions to ask, and how to end the connection.

Talking To Your Spirit Guide

The easiest way to connect with your spirit guide is to talk to them! You’d be surprised how often they actually respond. For example, Brittany, a reader of the Spells8 Newsletter shares her personal experience:

“I have a stuffed animal that belonged to my sister who died in January of 2022. I was rummaging around my desk looking for something I had lost today, when suddenly I picked up the plushie, held it close, and whispered “Where is it?” As soon as I asked, my eyes flicked upward, and I noticed the box I had been searching for. Stunned, I whispered back “Thank you.” It was lovely to know she was looking out for me.”

Meditation

While it may seem daunting to some, meditation is a straightforward way to communicate with your guide. Below is an easy visualization that you can try. Be sure to make a list of important questions or themes you’d like to meditate on before you begin.

Meeting your spirit guides

Spirit Guide Meditation

Start by envisioning a safe location to meet your spirit guide on the astral plane. This should be a comfortable place to sit and have a serious chat. Call your spirit guide to this space. When you can see your spirit guide or feel their presence, you may begin to ask them questions, thank them for looking over you, or have a discussion on your intended subject.

Divination

If you used tarot cards and a pendulum to identify your spirit guide, congratulations! You’ve already communicated with your spirit guide through these divination methods.

Consider creating a tarot spread based on questions you would like to ask your spirit guide. This can be anything from “What message do you have for me today?” to more intricate questions about the entity’s background or past life. What is it you would most like to know about your spirit guide?

Before you begin, focus on calling upon your spirit guide. If possible, visualize your guide there with you until you feel their presence, and draw your card. Meditate on the answers you receive.

It can be beneficial to try several methods of communication to see where your intuitive strengths lie. While meditation may not be your strong suit, there are plenty of other ways to talk to your spirit guide, so don’t stop at just one – best of luck!

  1. Hello, I’m a beginner at this and I would like to know how to be able to know my spirit guide. I don’t understand tarot cards or the pendulum. I’ve been told way to many stories about how to find out who it is. I’m very new at this and it’s very difficult to meditate in my house and I don’t have a safe place to go to to be able to meditate. So please help me in learning how to find out who it is. I appreciate your time in helping me learn out how to do this. I look forward to hearing from you very soon.

    • Hey Bobbie! I can understand how frustrating it is to not be able to meditate in your home. An alternative to meeting your spirit guides would be to ask them to come to you in your dreams. You can perform a sleeping meditation and set the intention to have them come to you in your dreams if they’re ready to reveal themselves to you. Be sure to keep a dream journal so you can record any symbols or speech that you hear in your dreams.

  2. Hi, I think my spirit guides are a fox and a cockatiel. But I need help talking with them. I did a bit of meditation and I believe that Fox came, but it was quite fuzzy, almost like static. Can you give me some alternative methods to communicate with them other than the ones mentioned in the article?

    • Hello Foxbird! Meditation and divination are the two most common methods for communicating with your spirit guides. It sounds like you were successful! I know that it was a bit fuzzy, almost like static, but I’m sure that with more practice, the connection will get stronger. However, if you’re still looking for an alternative method, you can try inviting your spirit guides to send you messages in your dreams. The most simple way to achieve this is by setting an intention before sleep that invites your spirit guides to communicate with you in your dreams. Be sure to keep a journal near your bed so you can record your dreams as soon as you wake up. Then, simply go to sleep! All of these methods take practice and openness, so if it doesn’t work the first time, don’t give up!
