Here’s a simple ritual to draw unseen protection around yourself and move forward guarded by the Black Moon’s hidden power. You can also engage in this practice one or two nights around the New Moon, when the sky is at its darkest.
Ingredients
1 black candle
A piece of black cloth or scarf
(optional) A protective crystal (black tourmaline, obsidian, or onyx)
How to cast the spell
- In a quiet, darkened room, place the black candle before you. If you have a protective crystal, set it beside the candle. Light the candle.
- Take the black cloth or scarf in your hands. As you gaze at the flame, imagine the fabric shimmering with shadowy light, infused with the strength of the Black Moon.
- Drape the cloth or scarf gently over your shoulders. Feel its weight as more than fabric: it is a mantle of safety and mystery, shielding you from harm and unwanted eyes.
- Speak aloud:
- Place your hand over your heart (and if you’re using the crystal, hold it there too). Envision yourself surrounded by a sphere of deep, protective shadow that no negativity can pierce.

What to do with the leftovers of the spell?
Fold the black cloth or scarf and keep it in a safe place. You may use it again whenever you need to wrap yourself in protection, or wear it when you feel the need for extra strength.
